Last week’s loss to Cincinnati proved to be detrimental to the Cleveland Browns’ playoff hopes. A 10-6 record is more than enough for most teams to advance to the NFL playoffs, in fact two teams and one division winner in the NFC are in the playoffs with 9-7 records. With the win by the Tennessee Titans last night over the Indianapolis Colts, the Browns were eliminated from playoff contention despite the best home record in team history. Had the Browns won a week ago in Cincinnati, the Browns would have clinched the #6 spot and Wild Card in the AFC playoffs. So fans will have to wait at least another year before they can buy Browns playoff gear, as theree’s no good luck in Cleveland today.

Browns win, need Tennessee loss to make playoffs
The Cleveland Browns have completed a magical season in 2007 that has seen the team go 10-6, set a team record with 7 wins at home, have two receivers with over 1,000 yards receiving, and have a WR set the team record for both receiving yards in a season and receiving TDs. Yet all of this may not be enough to take the 6th and final AFC Playoff spot. Thanks to their loss a week ago @ Cincinnati, the Cleveland Browns now need the Tennessee Titans to lose or tie tonight @ Indianapolis in a game where most speculate that the Colts will rest their starters. While Cleveland Browns jerseys & apparel is flying off the shelves, from #17 and #80 jerseys to Browns hats, shirts & keychains, the Browns destination may be a road playoff game; or a seat on their couches at home.

Bengals throw wrench into Browns’ playoff plans
In a battle of a 9-5 team @ a 5-9 team, the team with the winning record would be expected to win. But throw in the fact that the Browns upset the Bengals a few years ago when the roles were reversed and add in the “Battle of Ohio” rivalry and the Benglas had the recipe for an upset. While leading 6-0 inside the final 2 minutes of the 1st half, the Benglas picked two Derek Armstrong passes off leading to 13 points and a 19-0 halftime lead. The 19 points proved to be enough as Cincinnati held off Cleveland for a 19-14 win.
With the loss, the Browns now need Tennessee to lose @ Indianapolis on Sunday and a Cleveland win vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

Buckeyes to play LSU for BCS Championship
It’s official. In the year where only one team earned a perfect record, the Ohio State Buckeyes somehow backed their way into a #1 BCS ranking and will face an even more improbable #2 LSU in the BCS Championship bowl game in January. How LSU jumped to #2 is still hard to figure out. After a 21-14 win over Tennessee in the SEC Championship, the Tigers somehow jumped from #7 in the BCS standings to #2. While West Virginia & Missouri did lose to fall out of their spots, Georgia, Kansas did not play and Virginia Tech had an impressive ACC Championship win over Boston College. At the end of the day, however, the LSU Tigers and the Ohio State Buckeyes are the 2007-2008 BCS Championship match-up as Ohio State apparel & LSU gear is flying off the shelves in and around both campuses.
